Scoutreach and Diversity
Scoutreach
The ScoutReach program is a council-wide initiative that provides special leadership and emphasis to urban and rural Scouting programs. ScoutReach is the BSA’s commitment to making sure that all young people have an opportunity to join Scouting, regardless of their circumstances, neighborhood, or ethnic background.
Diversity
Diversity is the range of human differences, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, social class, physical ability or attributes, religious or ethical values system, national origin, and political beliefs.
Inclusion is involvement and empowerment, where the inherent worth and dignity of all people are recognized. An inclusive organization promotes and sustains a sense of belonging; it values and practices respect for the talents, beliefs, backgrounds, and ways of living of its members.
Scoutreach eliminates barriers to participation in underserved populations. Diversity and Inclusion makes everyone comfortable with being part of Scouting.
The Michigan Crossroads Council has served more than 8000 disadvantaged youth in its Scoutreach program in six communities including Flint, Saginaw, Detroit Metro, Port Huron, Kalamazoo, and Grand Rapids. Programs are provided in and after school and through community organizations. Below are reports from a sample of our programs.
