Membership
The most effective membership growth happens when a unit has ownership of their recruitment. Unit leadership coupled with staff support allows for more reach into a community. In the Michigan Crossroads Council, we work with units to create a custom membership plan and then help them complete it. Since we adopted this method, units were able to show growth in excess of 20 new families with no ability to meet at schools or have school access for promotion of Scouting.
Selected best practices and resources:
-
2021 membership recruiting resources provided to units included materials when school access was possible and also when it was not.
-
Custom unit membership plan utilizing 12 active and 12 passive approaches to promote Join Scout Nights
-
The National Boy Scouts piloted Geo Fencing through Facebook in the Michigan Crossroads Council. This has become such a good tool for our units, we continued the practice after national was no longer able to support.
-
Invitation manager created by Michigan Crossroads Council to promote peer to peer recruitment
