My first 90 days as your Scout Executive will be spent meeting with volunteers, community leaders, and council staff to determine the status of council operations. My intent is to listen and understand the role each person plays within the Council and hear their thoughts and concerns. The action items listed below will allow visibility and contact with key Scouting and community leadership.

 

Prior to first day on the job

• Review council calendar for opportunities to meet Scout volunteers

• Update calendar with Council Executive Board, Order of the Arrow Lodge, roundtables, and District meetings

• Set appointments to meet with Executive Board Members, community leaders, and Scout volunteers

• Review prior Scout Executive’s checkout report and address urgent items

 

FIRST 30 DAYS

• Meet with staff department directors

• Meet with key council leadership to discuss their vision for local Scouting

  1. Meet with Board Chair and Commissioner

  2. Meet with Council Treasurer to discuss 2022 budget and any audit concerns

  3. Meet with council legal counsel for an update on current legal issues and national bankruptcy impact

  4. Meet with Executive Committee Members

• Become familiar with and understand the council budget and funding issues

• Set meetings with Executive Board members, key donors, and corporate sponsors

• Meet individually with every council staff member with the intent to:

1. Get to know them

2. Ascertain their opportunities and challenges

3. Determine what support they need to achieve their goals

• Attend District Key 3’s, district meetings, and roundtables

• Schedule district fireside chats to meet with unit and district volunteers

• Attend Scouting Impact Hour

• Attend Camporee

• Review progress of Friends of Scouting, special events, pending and planned foundation grant requests, Summer Camp Registration, and 2022 membership growth plan

 

DAYS 60-90

• Update Council Key 3 with my progress made during the first 30 days 

• Identify additional key volunteers and community leaders to visit

• Hold district fireside chats

• Meet with Executive Board members, key donors, and corporate sponsors

• Continue attending District Key 3’s, district committee meetings, and roundtables.

• Attend 20th Anniversary Sporting Clays Shootout

• Visit Order of the Arrow Induction Weekends

• Visit Alaska Airlines Aviation Day
